* Acer palmatum is commonly known as Palmate Maple, Japanese Maple or Smooth Japanese Maple.
* 'Atropurpureum' cultivar is known as Red Japanese Maple.
* Native to Japan, China, Korea, Mongolia, and southeast Russia.
* "Rounded" canopy with low branches, desired for its attractive form and spectacular colors.
* Typically multi-trunked with large, purplish-red leaves.
* Suited for an ornamental bonsai specimen or as a lovely, sun-dappled shade tree.
* May grown near patios or walkways, since the roots are not invasive and stay compact.
